We strive for realistic Traditional Japanese (Nippon) Kobudo of Iai which includes Kenjutsu and Jujitsu. |
|
|
In the traditional sense, Jujitsu has pretty much been taught since its
inception via the utilization of pressure points, joint manipulation, and
stable body position as a means to disable one's opponent.
Miyake Shuko-kai style of Jujitsu (Juho) evolved
the traditional jujitsu
styles by
incorporating kicks and punches.

using his legs or hips.

As
Miyake Sensei progressed through his study of Shorinji Kempo (He
received his 6th Degree Black Belt from Doshin So in 1978), he began to
wonder if perhaps there was way to improve on what he had already
learned. He began shortening long circular movements, correcting
body position, emphasizing sharp movements that would produce punches and
kicks that were accurate and extremely powerful. He also stresses Japanese
Kempo and Karate techniques to make our
Miyake Shuko-kai Jujitsu more effective and
realistic as Budo (Japanese Martial Art).

Black Belt students: Fausto Lopez

Also, if
you visit the Video section on this website, you are
able to see Sensei Miyake's knife defense, combination of
Kempo (Karate) and our Jujitsu demostration.
After
completing the revision of his martial arts knowledge, Miyake Sensei came
out with our style of Jujitsu known as "Miyake Shuko-kai Jujitsu". His redefinition of the art has made it strong enough
to disable any opponent with a minimum amount of strength yet it has made
it flexible enough to be accessible to people of all ages; that is why is
not only taught as a martial art, but also as a means of self-defense.

"Tameshigiri"
One of the most important training for
Battou & Iai-Do
President / Soke: Kunio Miyake
Iai-do (Japanese swordmanship) is the system of drawing the sword, cutting
and returning the sword to the scabbard in a series of smooth,
well-defined movements. The Iai-do practitioner can also develop a
strong spirit, improved posture, muscle flexibility and a strong degree of
control over his/her emotions.
The
word Iaido itself signifies "The way of the unity of one's
spirit", but its proper practice goes beyond the mere meaning of
those words. To become an Iaido student, one must gain the following
concepts:
-
To
practice it without the idea of using it.
-
To
concentrate in one's self and the opponent, imagining and sensing
their actions before they take them.
-
Be
calm and ready at any moment.
-
Maintain
proper posture even during unexpected attacks
Although
the days of the Samurai are long gone, and the use of the sword outside of
any teaching institution is prohibited, the self-discipline acquired
through the study of Iaido makes it a worthwhile addition for the
fast-paced lifestyle that we nowadays face. The self-control that
the Iaido students learn help them not only to do well during training
sessions, but also enhances their ability to cope with everyday stresses.
